It Was One Of The First Homes Built In The Catalina Foothills Which Is Now One Of The Most Desirable Parts Of The City
A landmark 1937 estate with 15,502 square feet of living space in Tucson, Arizona, has hit the market for $6.5 million.
Designed by Josias Joesler, a popular architect in Tucson in the first part of the 20th century, the property was one of the first estates in the Catalina Foothills, according to listing agent Thalia Kyriakis of Russ Lyon Sothebys International Realty, who listed the property last week. The area is now one of the most desirable parts of the city, and the property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.
This is an exceptional trophy asset, Ms. Kyriakis said. Its rare. Its iconic. Its in a prime location and its non-substitutable. Theres nothing like it.
Known as the Eleven Arches or the Grace Mansion, the home was built for Louise N. Grace, an heiress of the shipping magnate W.R. Grace, the agent said. It has a mix of architectural revival styles, including European influences, with a heavy dose of Spanish Colonial.

The 4.4-acre estate is gated and walled, and located within the secured community of the Estates at Eleven Arches, Ms. Kyriakis explained. Originally the estate was at least 150 acres, but the land was subdivided over the years to create the community around the historic mansion.
Having a private water well in Tucson huge, Ms. Kyriakis said, adding that the property is also on city water.
