If youre looking for an inexpensive property to own in North Carolina, a mobile home could be exactly what you need. Otherwise known as trailers, mobile homes have been around since the 1930s, but their popularity has soared in recent years. A mobile home is cheaper because you dont buy the land its situated on effectively making it ‘personal property’ rather than ‘real estate property’. So they offer a more affordable option of home ownership, which is especially helpful if youre on a tight budget. Mobile homes are prefabricated structures built in a factory and placed on a site which usually has a fantastic sense of community. You can buy single-wide mobile homes, which are a maximum of 18 feet wide. Or you could choose a double-wide at a maximum of 20 feet, which provides plenty of space for larger families. If you want to enjoy the freedom of owning a mobile home in North Carolina, take a look at our listings.

Nc Florence Victims Are Beginning To Receive Fema Mobile Homes Trailers
Hurricane Florence victims in North Carolina are beginning to receive temporary housing units from FEMA.
More than 100 mobile homes and travel trailers filled lots Thursday morning at a staging area in Lenoir County. Hundreds of additional units are on the way.
The first delivery took place Sunday with more than a dozen expected to be installed by the end of the week.
We have to determine that a site is suitable, that a unit will fit there, that they have gas, water, and sewer, and then we make plans to take that unit there and have it installed, FEMA spokesperson Mike Wade said.
We have interviewed somewhere around in excess of 700 households that may in fact be eligible to receive some type of unit from us.
People in Brunswick, Carteret, Columbus, Craven, Duplin, Jones, Onslow, Pender, New Hanover, and Robeson Counties are eligible for the temporary housing units. Wade said there is an intentional effort to purchase the trailers from dealerships in those counties if possible, or from other North Carolina sellers, as a way to support the local economy.
All of the temporary housing units are brand new. Travel trailers are intended for up to six months of use while the mobile homes are for up to 18 months.
Everything that we do is obviously temporary. Our goal is for them to make their recovery plans, find a more permanent place to live. If its their home that was damaged, it allows them that time to continue to make long-term repairs to their property, Wade said.
Fema Extends Trailer Program That Helps Local Hurricane Ida Victims With Housing

FEMA has approved a six-month extension for its direct housing program that benefits Hurricane Ida victims.
The program was set to expire Feb. 28.
On Sept. 16, 2022, GOHSEP requested a six-month extension, from Feb. 28 to Aug. 29, 2023.
The Houma Courier previously reported that the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security was asking FEMA to waive rent.
“FEMA is committed to providing temporary housing to eligible Hurricane Ida survivors as they continue the long-term work of recovery,” said a FEMA press release. “Since Ida made landfall, FEMA has housed more than 3,800 families in mobile homes, travel trailers and other ready-to-occupy housing.”

Frequently Asked Questions For Mobile Homes For Sale In North Carolina
Mobile homes are less mobile than RVs and motorhomes which can be easily moved from place to place thanks to their wheels.
Mobile homes can come in single-wide or double-wide. Single-wides are 18 feet or less in width and 90 feet or less in length and can be towed to their site as a single unit. Double-wides are 20 feet or wider, and are 90 feet in length or less, and are towed to their site in two separate units, which are then joined together.
Compared to regular housing, mobile homes are usually inexpensive because they don’t include the land on which the home is assembled. The owner of a mobile home generally, only owns the home and not the land on which it resides.
There are 848 Mobile Homes currently for sale in North Carolina.

More Fema Housing Options In Desoto Sarasota And Charlotte Counties
Editor: The FEDERAL government, led by Democrats, continues to aid FL recovery. Democrats help ALL struggling Floridians, regardless of party affiliation!
Staff Report, The Daily Sun, Oct 26, 2022.
TALLAHASSEE The Federal Emergency Management Agency is bringing more housing options to area counties devastated by Hurricane Ian.
In response, FEMA is bringing temporary travel trailers and mobile homes to eligible Hurricane Ian survivors in Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto and Lee counties, it said in a news release. Sarasota and Hardee counties were included on Saturday, Oct 29th.
The agency stated it will take significant time to transport, permit, install and inspect the units before they are available.
The temporary housing units option is not an immediate solution for a survivors interim and longer-term housing needs, FEMA cautioned.
The Direct Temporary Housing Assistance gives options for uninhabitable homes that became that way due to Hurricane Ian, the news release stated. Due to a lack of affordable and available housing before the hurricane, it determined rental assistance is insufficient to meet the housing need.
FEMA stated it will notify applicants eligible for the direct housing. The temporary homes need to be first transported, permitted, installed and inspected prior to use, it stated in the news release.
Direct Housing has three primary options, it said:

Fema Trailers Coming To Eastern North Carolina
KINSTON, NC Travel trailers and manufactured housing units are being provided to eligible Hurricane Florence survivors in 10 North Carolina counties: Brunswick, Carteret, Columbus, Craven, Duplin, Jones, Onslow, Pender, New Hanover and Robeson.
FEMA provided an inside look Thursday at the two trailers eligible for storm survivors. One resembles an RV and comes with one bedroom and possibly bunk beds. The other is a mobile housing unit that is meant for a more long-term stay.
FEMA officials said family size and how long it takes for a family to rebuild their home will determine which model you get.
The goal is to put these on your property near your home so you can stay in your community, said North Carolina Emergency Management Spokesman Keith Acree. You can still continue to go to work. Your kids can go to school. You can continue to live in your community while repairs to your home continue.
FEMA agents said if a person still needs to register for disaster recovery, they have time.
Disaster survivors who are interested and need help should call the disaster assistance helpline at 621-3362 or 462-7585 anytime from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m seven days a week until further notice. Multilingual operators are available. If you have questions on how to apply for aid, visit www.fema.gov.

Fema Brings Trailers To Nc For Temporary Housing
Thousands of Hurricane Florence victims are still displaced from their homes, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency is in North Carolina working to help.
That now includes providing temporary housing in so-called FEMA trailers and manufactured homes.
The trailers are smaller and intended for families who can make their homes habitable in fewer than six months. Manufactured homes are for longer stays.
“These solutions are tailored to the individual needs of the survivor, and are based on how quickly that their homes can be repaired to a safe, sanitary and functional condition,” said FEMA Spokesman Mike Wade.
FEMA likes to put the temporary housing on the victim’s existing property. But zoning regulations or utility access doesn’t always allow that.
“If those criteria can’t be met, then our next option would be to place the unit in a travel park, a mobile home park that is already zoned and has everything we need to come set it up,” said Wade.
FEMA also offers rental assistance or places people in hotels where possible.
Fema Trailers Stored At Texas Airport Being Auctioned Off For A Fraction Of What They Cost

In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, thousands of manufactured homes were shipped to and stored at the Hearne Municipal Airport where they would be inspected before being shipped to families in need.
Fast forward to almost two years later and the trailers are still there — for now.
Were definitely okay with them being here. As long as they want to stay, they can, said John Naron the city manager of Hearne.
Naron says partnering with FEMA has benefited Hearne in several ways.
The whole process has been really good for the city. Its brought in a lot of jobs and its actually brought a lot of recognition to our town, said Naron.
The airport alone has received close to $2,000,000 worth of improvements made by FEMA, but the lease with the airport is up in April.
FEMA is now in the process of selling the leftover trailers to the public via online auctions.
KBTX has learned the trailers that reportedly cost FEMA around $65,000 each, are now being sold on a government auction website with bids starting as low as $100.
Were going to miss them, like I said theyve been great to us but theyve set us up to be able to attract economic development, said Naron.

Fact Sheet: Direct Temporary Housing In North Carolina
As a result of Hurricane Florence, rental resources are not available in some communities for displaced residents. Based upon the needs identified by the State of North Carolina, FEMA is providing two forms of Direct Temporary Housing Assistance in 10 counties: Brunswick, Carteret, Columbus, Craven, Duplin, Jones, New Hanover, Onslow, Pender and Robeson:
- Travel Trailers provide a timely, effective interim solution for most households with a high degree of confidence that repairs to their home can be completed in less than a year, ideally within six months.
- Manufactured Housing Units provide a longer-term solution for survivors whose repairs will take longer to complete due to greater degree of damage.
To be considered for placement in a unit, North Carolina residents who sustained losses from Hurricane Florence must register with FEMA and stay in touch to make sure FEMA has up-to-date contact information.

Fema Mobile Hospital To Return Medical Care To Tornado Ravaged City
May 6, 2014
Tornadorecovery continues in hard hit Winston County where residents will soon find the return of medical care.
One week after an EF4 tornado slammed into the Winston County Medical Center, a temporary hospital is going up about two miles away. The FEMA Mobile Medical facility was transported from North Carolina this weekend to Louisville.
“What my dream was when I developed this for the White House as senior medical advisor to the Department of Homeland Security was to try to keep the medical infrastructure in the community operating so that they could not only take care of the patients in the community, but they could keep their staff employed,” said Mobile Disaster Hospital Advisor Dr. Lew Stringer with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
The mobile hospital will have 10 beds, a five bed emergency department, an x-ray unit and full surgical capabilities. It sits on the concrete slab of new concrete in some areas, surrounded by sheared trees. The hollowed out shell of the former facility is a noticeable backdrop for the giant connected containers.
Electricity, water and sewer must be connected to the mobile medical site. The hospital should be fully operational in about two weeks.
According to medical officials, the mobile hospital will serve the people of the Louisville area until the Winston County Medical Center is rebuilt.
