Investigation finds remains in advanced stage of decomposition, other deplorable conditionsMedia Contact: LARA Communications 517-373-9280Email: Due to multiple violations of Michigans Occupational Code and the Prepaid Funeral and Cemetery Sales Act, and an imminent threat to the public health and safety, the Dept. of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs has summarily suspended the mortuary science establishment license of Cantrell Funeral Home, Inc., located at 10400 Mack Ave, in Detroit and the individual mortuary science license of the funeral homes designated manager, Jameca LaJoyce Boone. The establishments prepaid funeral and cemetery sales registration was also summarily suspended. Orders of summary suspension were issued by LARAs Corporations, Securities & Commercial Licensing bureau.
In response to a complaint from the public, CSCL inspectors found deplorable, unsanitary conditions and other violations that included:

But before they do, they’re holding an estate sale online.
Hamtramck funeral home selling furniture after closing down
Krot Funeral Home in Hamtramck is holding an online estate sale this weekend, with many furniture pieces for sale.
David Krot lived upstairs to his family’s funeral home, Krot Funeral Home, 70-some-odd years ago. He’s retired, sold the property and is having a funeral home estate sale with an online auction.
“We didn’t have chrome furniture and stuff like that. We had high-end, nice living room furniture and it was comfortable,” Krot said. And yes, the furniture is for sale. And lots of it.
The online auction starts Saturday and will go to Monday, or beyond. Everything will be sold.

Exploring The Ratz Bechtel Funeral Home
This large beautiful abandoned funeral home once served as a mansion to an early pioneer of the city it is located in, it then turned into a funeral home in 1949. The building dates back to 1897 when it was built for just over $10,000.
The now abandoned funeral home was the place of thousands upon thousands of final goodbyes but the Victorian mansion had her own final goodbye when large funeral corporations were buying and merging with the smaller ones and moving them together into new locations. This grand old building with its old fashioned construction, creaky floors and complex heating systems just could not keep up with the times.
Much of the charm and ornate woodwork of the original mansion is still visible from the grand staircase to the original owners hand crafted wooden desk and a classic bell in what was once a billiards room, as well as original fireplaces.
On my first visit to this old abandoned funeral home, I had to move quickly as I was losing sunlight making for tougher lighting conditions. There is still power to the funeral home but I prefer to shoot with natural light for the look and mood I like.
The abandoned and empty funeral home was deathly quiet and it was like a maze going to and from all of the different rooms and hallways. On the main level there was a chapel, many many rooms which served the thousands of funeral services over the years, and also a grand staircase with an ornate carved wood newell post.

Due to multiple violations of Michigans Occupational Code and the Prepaid Funeral and Cemetery Sales Act, the Dept. of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs has summarily suspended the mortuary science establishment license of Barksdale Funeral Home, Inc., located at 1120 East State Fair Street in Detroit, MI, and the individual mortuary science license of its manager Millie L. Stewart. A formal complaint, an order of summary suspension, and an order to cease and desist were issued by LARAs Corporations, Securities & Commercial Licensing Bureau in conjunction with the Michigan Attorney Generals office. A separate formal complaint was issued against Barksdales prepaid funeral and cemetery sales registration.

Shorter Periods After Positive Tests Contact With Positive Case

The CDC has issued new guidance on how long you need to quarantine after a positive COVID-19 test or contact with someone who tests positive.
The new guidance reduces the length of time people are recommended to quarantine in almost all cases. Heres what the CDC said:
New CDC guidelines on COVID quarantine:
Given what we currently know about COVID-19 and the Omicron variant, CDC is shortening the recommended time for isolation from 10 days for people with COVID-19 to 5 days, if asymptomatic, followed by 5 days of wearing a mask when around others.
The change is motivated by science demonstrating that the majority of SARS-CoV-2 transmission occurs early in the course of illness, generally in the 1-2 days prior to onset of symptoms and the 2-3 days after. Therefore, people who test positive should isolate for 5 days and, if asymptomatic at that time, they may leave isolation if they can continue to mask for 5 days to minimize the risk of infecting others.
Additionally, CDC is updating the recommended quarantine period for those exposed to COVID-19. For people who are unvaccinated or are more than six months out from their second mRNA dose and not yet boosted, CDC now recommends quarantine for 5 days followed by strict mask use for an additional 5 days.
