Crematory To Be Added To Laird Funeral Home Under Plans Submitted To The City Of Elgin

Laird Funeral Home owners are seeking the city of Elgins approval on plans to build an addition to their South State Street business to house a crematory.

The project, which received the endorsement of the Elgin Planning and Zoning Commission last week, would be a 1,500-square-foot expansion to the southwest corner of the funeral home.

It would have a chamber where cremations are done, a small cremation chapel and a storage/prep area. The exterior would match the existing building.

The cremation process doesnt result in any additional noise and doesnt produce any ash, odor or smoke, Senior Planner Damir Latinovic said. Laird expects to do three to four cremations per week, he said.

Crematoriums are licensed by the Illinois Comptrollers Office under the Illinois Crematory Regulation Act, he said. An application for a license must include an operating permit issued by the Bureau of Air Permit Section of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.

ACO Commercial is pleased to announce the sale of 6714-20 W. 16th Street in Chicagos western suburb of Berwyn, IL.
