It may be about money they just dont want to let go of the 6% or 7% of the sale price or it may be because they feel that agents offer them no benefit that they cannot provide themselves.
Whereas traditional agents may be somewhat gun-shy in dealing with owners of FSBO real estate, we have extensive experience in fact, weve never found a FSBO home seller who was uncomfortable dealing with us.
But I thought the whole point of FSBO was to avoid real estate commissions. How do you get paid? Yes, thats the perception. We get paid by building our 3% commission into the offer placed on the FSBO home and the seller does pay it. But youll find that while we may not be worth our weight in gold, we usually more than earn our commission in terms of dollars because FSBOs are incorrectly priced to start with. 90% are eventually listed with a broker within 30 days! Clintonville Seniors Fight Against Displacement From Mobile Home Community
The entrance to mobile home community Courtyard Estates is tucked off a discreet alleyway adjacent to Leland Avenue in Clintonville. More than 60 senior citizens call this trailer park home some have been here for decades.
Bill Keller moved here nine years ago after his wife died. Before that, he had owned a house in Worthington for 30 years.
My, for example, with being a widower, this is a perfect place for me, Keller says. Ive got my son who lives in Upper Arlington, and Ive got three grandkids and my daughter-in-law. And I spend a lot of time with them.
Keller calls Courtyard Estates a little paradise.
Its close to shopping, its close to Morse Road and High Street, close to bus lines, close to everything that we need, Keller says.
He installed a porch so he could chat more easily with his neighbors. He made other improvements to the home as well.
Buying the mobile was just a small part of it. What I did when I came in, I put all new flooring in. So all the carpet, all the hardwood is brand new, Keller says. I replaced all the windows. I replaced the roof. I put in a new heat pump. I put in a new furnace.
Keller owns the home itself, but he does not own the land beneath it. The developer Preferred Living bought that land four years ago, but now wants to turn the community into apartments. That would effectively displace the residents, most of whom are senior citizens with low incomes or disabilities.
