Locals recommend some favorites including DiVino Ristorante Italiano, BBQ Barn and Salt + Marrow Kitchen.
Progress Continues Near North Augusta’s Exit 5 With New Businesses Housing Developments Planned
Ongoing construction, fast food restaurants and bustling traffic are just some of the sights of North Augusta’s Exit 5.
Retail and housing have increased in the area over the past year, with the addition of large and small businesses and neighborhoods off Austin Graybill Road and nearby Murrah Road.
One of the biggest new developments coming to the exit is a new emergency room with Aiken Regional Medical Center. The expansion of Aikens medical system in the county comes after adding urgent care in nearby Graniteville. The building, which is currently under construction, is expected to open mid-2022.
In addition, planned development Austin Heights, is starting to sell homes in their Phase 1. The development, located off of Austin Graybill Road, has 150 homes of varying ranch and cottage styles.
Meybohm realtor Linda Limehouse said there is growth in the area, and that the Austin Heights neighborhood is a two year long project with construction PlanDwell Homes, South Georgia Homes and Designer Homes of Georgia.
Austin Heights, once completed, will look similar to the Whispering Pines development in Evans, GA. Some construction was completed in mid-August with homes starting at 1,500 square feet with houses priced around $300,000.
Corporate businesses have also continued to add locations in North Augusta along exit 5.
Aiken County Public Schools Superintendent King Laurence sees the growth in North Augusta as a signal for what is to come.

Old Aiken County Plantation Transforming To New Housing
NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. – Were getting a first look at a new housing development coming to the North Augusta areas east side.
The area could see more than 400 new homes going in the Old Aiken Road and Jefferson Davis Highway area.
The Aiken County administrator says its one of the countys fastest-growing areas. Now more stores, restaurants and 400 new homes are on the way.
Nick Lyons lives off Old Aiken Road, a two-lane road about three miles east of downtown North Augusta.
Its been like silence … just cars going up and down the road, he said.
The road is about to get louder. A new development called Weeping Willows is coming right across the street from him. Developers say it will bring hundreds of new homes.
There is a shortage of housing in this area, said Tracey Turner.
Turner bought almost 200 acres of land there. He grew up in North Augusta.
Its an overwhelming feeling that you can come back home and actually put a footprint on somewhere you grew up, he said.
But for him, it means more than that because of what this land used to be.
All of this land was a plantation, he said.
Some of it is still there the old home and the slave quarters.
This plantation is once where Blacks used to work as slaves, and now a Black developer owns it, he said.
The lands just sitting there … not doing anything. Anytime youre growing the community, I think its a good thing, he said.
