The History Of Cincinnati

Cincinnati was founded in late December of 1788 by three men named Mathias Denman, Colonel Robert Patterson, and Israel Ludlow. The original surveyor, John Filson, named the area Losantiville, derived from four separate terms, each in a different language, before he died in October 1788. Cincinnati originally started out as three settlements between the Little Miami and Great Miami rivers on the northern shore of the Ohio River. Columbia was on the Little Miami, North Bend was on the Great Miami, and the central settlement, Losantiville, was opposite the mouth of the Licking River. Fort Washington was built in 1789 to protect the settlements in the Northwest Territory.

In 1790, the governor of the Northwest Territory, Arthur St. Clair, changed the settlements name to Cincinnati to honor the Society of the Cincinnati, of which he was president. The society was named after Cincinnatus, the Roman general and dictator who saved Rome, Italy from destruction. The society was focused on honoring the return to civilian life by military officers after the Revolution rather than imposing military rule. To this day, Cincinnati has been home to a large number of Revolutionary War soldier descendents. The citys connection to Rome has also remained strong, and Cincinnati is even nicknamed The City of Seven Hills, a phrase often associated with Rome.

    CINCINNATI

Much of Over-the-Rhine has been remade, the Cincinnati riverfront has been revitalized and now Price Hill is starting to think its time could soon arrive.

There was some groundwork for a neighborhood renaissance laid years ago. Now, new single-family home construction is in the works.

After decades of deterioration and decline, Price Hill brims with captivating views and potential.

Don Johnson of Cutler Real Estate walked around his old stomping grounds Friday to show us some of it.

“From this property we’re going to have four and on the other side we’re going to have six townhouses,” he pointed out at the far southern end of Grand Avenue.

Dozens of infill lots like the one at Mt. Hope have been bought up for market-rate housing. You heard that right. The market seems to be light-years from where it was just a few summers ago when properties could be had for $40,000 and $50,000.

“It’s a whole different market over here now,” Johnson said. “It really picked up momentum.”

He grew up around here as an Elder grad and handles sales and marketing for the homebuilder, who also grew up around here as an Elder grad.

Kim Knoppe made his mark in Columbus and came back to find lots of empty lots and no plan beyond tear downs.

He is still in buying mode and will break ground for new home construction on Hawthorne Avenue in Price Hill next week. The homes will be in the $400,000 range.

Patio Homes For Sale What Is A Patio Home

Greenside Estates in Cincinnati, OH :: New Homes by Drees ...

A patio home is typically a detached ranch home that is essentially yard maintenance free! Your HOA fees pay for someone else to mow the grass, rake the leaves and shovel the snow! Sounds appealing doesnt it?

Patio homes are almost always a small pocket community, and often part of a much larger development that will include large single family homes and perhaps some condos.

Now depending on the builder, they may go by various names:

    • Patio Home
    • Lifestyle Home
    • Villa Home

No matter what you call them, they offer a lifestyle that allows you to have more of the time for what YOU enjoy doing and LESS time on outside chores!
