When folks are shopping for a new home in the Dallas area, theres a good chance theyll wind up in a newer home.
In a new report by Homes.com, Dallas ranks No. 17 in the United States for the newest homes for sale, with 23.5 percent of listings being built in 2000 or later.
“Booming job markets, affordable housing, and higher standards of living may explain construction in many of the cities with the most newer homes for sale,” the report says.
But it’s still not the boom in newer homes that Houston and Austin are experiencing right now. Houston ranks No. 8 for the newest homes for sale, with 29.3 percent of listings built in 2000 or later. Austin ranks No. 4 nationally, with that percentage being 34.6.

According to the National Association of Home Builders, more permits were issued last year for new-home construction in the Houston area than anywhere else in the U.S. Dallas-Fort Worth ranked second , and Austin held the No. 5 spot .
The Texas Real Estate Research Center at Texas A& M University says single-family home sales shot up 24.6 percent in the Houston area for the first four months of this year versus the first four months of last year. That compares with 9.3 percent in Austin, 4.8 percent in Dallas-Fort Worth, and 15.4 percent in San Antonio.

New owners of the historic Veale Ranch west of Fort Worth expect their planned development could eventually total $5 billion in value. Dallas-based PMB Capital Investments just bought the 3,800-acre cattle spread, which is about 11 miles west of downtown Fort Worth.
PMB Capital plans to add the property which had been in the same family since the 1930s to its growing list of North Texas residential community developments.
Weve long felt the West Fort Worth market would come alive, PMB Capitals Taylor Baird said. Its taken some time, but the area is on every homebuilders radar now.
PMB Capitals Veale Ranch play is just one of a growing number of huge residential developments in the works in North Texas. With buyer appetite for new homes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area at an all-time high, land developers and homebuilders are scrambling to find locations to build.
PMB Capital already has large communities underway east of Dallas and northwest of Fort Worth in Wise County.
Next door to the Veale Ranch, the developer is building the successful Ventana community, which is planned to have 1,800 houses.
Weve been working on Ventana since 2014, and that was the first project we did as a company, Baird said. When we purchased the land, it didnt have water, sewer and roadway access.
But we were pretty convinced it would be successful given its 12 minutes from downtown Fort Worth.
