To the right of the old Round Rock Post Office is a two over two historic home built in 1870 known as the St. Charles Hotel or the William W. Owen House. This Williamson County historic property is on the National Register of Historic Properties and is rich in detailed history as well as in use in these modern times. The entire Chisholm Trail area in Old Town Round Rock has many amazing historic sites. There is a beautiful old Aermotor Windmill Company windmill on this site. The old Post Office building was a mercantile store in recent history as well as years ago.

Round Rock Texas has a lot of history. Originally, Round Rock was called Brushy, after the Brushy Creek. The Chisholm Trail went right through Round Rock crossing the Brushy Creek. The outlaw Sam Bass met his demise in Round Rock at the hands of the Texas Rangers and is buried in the Round Rock Cemetery just west of Interstate 35 on Sam Bass Road. Sam Bass is also rumoured to have hung out in Longhorn Caverns near Burnet TX. The Round Rock Historic Commercial District is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
